Charter Public School Supporters Attend Mayoral Forum

Last night, Chicagoans elected Lori Lightfoot as our next Mayor.

Lori won 74% of the vote – a broad mandate from voters. She is the next leader of our city, and the first African-American woman elected to the position.

Elevate Chicago parents turned out to vote in a big way. Just days before the election, our coalition partner Catalyst Schools hosted a mayoral forum at their beautiful new Kehrein Center for the Arts. Watch a recap of that event, and hear from Elevate Chicago parents about what they want to see from their new Mayor.

While this election is exciting for many reasons, we also have reason to be apprehensive. Both candidates called for a moratorium on charter schools during the election. We will need to work harder than ever to show our elected officials – including our new Mayor – that our children are public school students who deserve to be treated equally.
